Tell us about yourself and your work in the cotton industry: I have lived in Mississippi my entire life, so I grew up seeing cotton everywhere. When I learned that The Cotton Board was looking to hire an IT Director back in 2008, I was extremely excited about the opportunity. I was initially hired to design and develop an application to assist the compliance department with the collection of assessment data from gins and handlers. Today, I manage an array of programs for The Cotton Board. I’m always looking for innovative ways to infuse technology into the business in order to streamline business processes and provide valuable utilities to staff and board members. I enjoy working across all areas of the organization and especially enjoy interacting with our board members, gins and handlers. I have learned so much about the cotton industry during the last eleven years and have developed a true love for our industry. I’m excited to see what the future holds for cotton and look forward to being part of it!
What makes you so passionate about cotton? I just love the feel of cotton! But more importantly, I love the people in this industry. I admire their passion and dedication to what they do to provide us with a fiber we use every single day.
What do you see as cotton’s biggest opportunity in the future? Sustainability has become such an important issue in the eyes of consumers today. Looking ahead, cotton is well positioned as a truly natural fiber and people connect with this more now than ever before. It’s just one of the many benefits of cotton!
What cotton item do you own that you hope to keep forever, and why? I have a cotton denim jacket that I love! A good blue jean jacket stays in style and goes with almost everything. I also have a couple of cotton blankets that I received when my kids were babies. They absolutely loved them, and I’ll always keep them!
